Shaun Marsh’s century against India in the previous match (5th One day International of the Australia in India 2009 series) at run a ball was the knock which enabled Australia to amass a score of 350 runs. In the limited opportunity which he got so far to represent his country (18 matches), he averages 42.35 and has scored at a strike rate of 77.33. He has scored one century which was in the previous match and 5 half centuries.
Shaun Marsh appears to be consistent and has got the right temperament for the opening slot. He is 26 years old and thus has a long career ahead.
Shaun Marsh first became popular during the 2008 IPL (Indian Premier League) tournament where he was the highest run scorer for Kings XI Punjab. He scored 616 runs at a strike rate of 139.68 and averaged 68.44. His highest score was 115 runs in the tournament.
It came as a surprise that Australia did not play him in all the matches of the current series against India. When he played in the second match he did not open the innings and played at the number 7th spot. He was not included in the playing 11 in the first and third match. In fact, Ricky Ponting ended up opening in the third match of the India Vs. Australia series.
