Twenty 20 is a new form of cricket that was designed to be action packed and a thrilling sensation that would get younger people into the game of cricket. By its name you can tell it is a shortened version of the 50 over game with 20 over’s each innings. The twenty 20 game consists of big hitting and is a fast paced game.

Gear involved in the game:

Helmet to protect your head, Bat  to hit the ball, arm guard to protect your arms, gloves to give you grip and protect your hands, Box , Pads to protect your legs and suitable footwear. Other equipment may include a cricket ball 2 stumps and 4 bails.

Important rules in twenty 20 cricket.

The maximum amount of over’s a bowler can bowl is 4 per innings. Umpires can award five penalty runs to either team if the umpire believes the other team is wasting time. Field restrictions for the field team are: no more than five fielders can be on leg side at one time, during the first six over’s there can only be a maximum of five fielders outside the 30 yard fielding circle, After those six over’s there can be a maximum of 5 fielders outside the fielding circle. The fielding team must start to bowl their 20th over within 75mins or for every whole over afterwards the batting team is credited with an extra six runs.  If a bowler bowls a no ball by overstepping the popping crease, it costs 1 run and the next delivery is declared a “free-hit”, this means the batsman can only get out by being run out.

History of Twenty 20 cricket

The idea of a shortened format of the game at a professional level was talked about by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 1998 and 2001. But twenty 20 cricket was not introduced until 2003 in England, When the Benson and Hedges cup ended in 2002 the ECB needed a new competition to take its place. With not much support from the younger generation of people the ECB decided they need to attract more attention to cricket and twenty 20 was the perfect solution with big hit and a fast short game. With the huge success of 20-20 Cricket, many countries like New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the West Indies adopted it. The first international match of Twenty 20 In  Then in September 2007 International Cricket Council (ICC) organised the Twenty 20 World Cup in South Africa, in which India defeated Pakistan by 5 runs to lift the World Cup.
