It was a very good match indeed. Although my team got hammered into the ground by their cousins across the waters of the Indian Ocean, it was a well played match. The result has actually just come in, India all out 168 chasing a total of 307 posted by Sri Lanka.
It was a brilliant start by Sri Lanka. The openers did fine, especially Jayasuriya whose strike rate never went below 100. Dilshan was out early, and eventually Jayawardene was dismissed a short while later followed by the captian, Kumar Sangakkara, for 5. Jayasuriya had no mercy, and was smashing the ball across the field, but fell two runs short of a hundred when given out by his former teammate- now an umpire lbw by a brilliant delivery bowled by Aashish Nehra. Angelo Mathews came in with a result of a small nineteen, and the batting job was left in the hands of youngsters Kandamby and Kapugedera. They both put up a strong partnership, and unfortunately for the Sri Lankans, Kapugedera was dismissed for 36. Kandamby then astonished the world and powered Sri Lanka to an enormous total of 307-6, with Kandamby not out on 91.
The Indian innings opened well, the openers Dinesh Kartik and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar were batting well, until Kartik got out. Tendulkar fell a few minutes later on 27. Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh managed to get to the 100 run mark, when Yuvraj fell to an out swinging odelivery bowled by Malinga. Suresh Raina came in and was out first ball when the captain and wicket keeper Kumar Sangakkara, took a brilliant catch. Mathews came into the attack for Sri Lanka, only carrying 5 wickets with the 12 matches he has played. But good luck was on his side as he rattled the Indians out one by one and finished with figures 6 wickets in 6 overs with 20 runs. Not only a five wicket haul, but was named man of the match. India were bowled all out for 168 in 37.2 overs, losing by a massive total of 139 runs. India not only lost, but also lost their Number 1 spot to South Africa, after a time of a day and 14 minutes only.
It was a long match, but the crowd was supportive the whole way. The final is yet to come on Monday. The result of this match is shocking. But can India hang on? Can they win the final, take back their number one spot, and head home triumphant carrying a Compaq cup with them?
Note: This was all my report, all original and made up on the spot as I went along.

First of all slackness must have crept in, in the Indian team, just because the result of the match is inconsequential since it is the final league match and they are already through to the final.Only on the previous day, the team came up with an all round show to beat New Zealand by six wickets. That must have considerably sapped their energy. On the other hand Sri Lankan team had come up after three days of rest and got fully recuperated. That made the actual difference, between the teams.Let us wait and see what happens in the final. Why should we jump to conclusions?
I’m not jumping to conclusions, I’m simply giving a report of THIS PARTICULAR MATCH, no matter what the conditions are. The final has a day to go, you don’t jump to conclusions now.
Having got stumped in the league match, India had the last laugh by winning the campaq cup in style by 49 runs, defeating Sri Lanka in the final. Thanks to Sachin foe his fine 138, who was adjudged the man of the match as well as the series.Don’t get stumped. It is all in the game.Thanks.
