Take it from a 7 year Cheer Veteran. Here are some of my all-time favorite cheers for tryouts!

Spell Out Your School Name and Mascot

The way to make this cheer awesome is to put great arm movements to it. Here is an idea. Do the movements in order. One movement per letter of your school name and mascot.

H-A-Y-W-O-O-D-K-N-I-G-H-T-S

Movements:

For the letter, “H”—Left arm with hand flat, palm down. Tuck your elbow into your hip andtouch the thumb of your flat hand to your right shoulder. Right arm down in a low-V with hand in a spade as well.

Letter “A”— Keep all arms the same, just snap your right arm down to right side.

“Y”—-Arms the same, Bring your left elbow out like you’re putting it on a table. Bring your right hand (still in a spade) to your left elbow. (You should look like a genie, kind of.

“W”— Snap both arms down to your sides. Keeping your hands flat (in spades)

“O”– High V with regular high V fists.

“O”— Still in a High V, Bend your elbows so that your fists are at your shoulders.

“D”—Snap your elbows down ( called daggers). Fists are still at your shoulders, your elbows are down.

“K”— Straighten arms down, fists down paralell to your thighs.

“N”– Do a little jump and so a High V

“I” Arms still straight, clasp/clap your hands above your head

“G” Hands still in a clasp, sring down just under your chin (elbows should be in an upside down v, elbows should not be touching)

“H”— Hands still in a clasp,  straighten arms down in front of your body. (don’t bend over)

“T”—- Clasp/clap under your chin (like normal)

“S” Little jump while doing a high V and jump out your legs to the sides. (You’ll look like an “X”)

When you’re done spelling, you can leave your legs out where they are. To a relaxed clap underneath your chin, 4 times in an even rhythm. And then slap the sides of your legs 4 times in an even rhythm….then start spelling all over again with the same movements. Do 3 times (Standard is 3 times and then “cheering to the crowd” or “hitting the crowd” when you’re done. say “Yeah! Go Knights! Go Big Blue!” Whatever, using toe-touches, spirt arms, back handspring, standing back tuck and smiles. Show your stuff, whatever you can do!

Modify this cheer to suit your needs whether it be shortening or lengthening the cheer if your school name doesn’t fit into this cheer. You can choose to repeat movements or take some out. Make it yours!

I think that instead of writing the cheer down and expecting people to to apply it to thereselves, you should make into a video. This way it would be much better to actually do the cheer!

~ Just a little word of advice!

That’s great advice, Jada, thanks. I did think of putting this into a video except a) I don’t have a video camera or webcam and b) I am trying to catch up with all of you techno-geniuses, I can’t even work an iPod =)
