Tungod, Inabanga, Bohol – Filipino pride and boxing’s finest Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs) has never shunned the top possible opponents available. His record speaks for itself. He fought and defeated the best, impressively and convincingly. Pacquiao’s ring exploits are hard to match, much less surpass. He was the lineal champion in four different weight divisions, namely; at flyweight, featherweight, super featherweight, and light welterweight, a feat rarely seen in boxing, Pacman is also one of only two fighters who has ever won six world championships in as many weight categories. He shares this distinction with “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya, whom he demolished in eight rounds of total beat-down. If Pacquiao goes on to beat Miguel Angel Cotto of Puerto Rico this November, he puts himself on top of the boxing world, not just of this generation, but probably of all time, as he gets his unprecedented seventh world championship in as many weight divisions.

Pacquiao fought legends, future hall-of-famers at that, and beat them. He made Oscar De La Hoya quit on his stool and almost killed Ricky Hatton within two pulsating rounds. When Pacquiao demolished Erik “El Terrible” Morales, another shoe-in for Canastota, many boxing scholars considered it as his greatest achievement so far in his then already illustrious career. Others said that it was his victory against the “Baby-Faced Assassin,” while some others believed that it was his draw and victory against Marquez, a fighter whom both Morales and Barrera have successfully avoided during their primes (although Barrera eventually locked horns with Marquez).

Pacquiao, often referred to as the “Storm Across the Pacific”, is vastly famous not just in the Philippine islands, but in various parts of the globe as well. NBA stars and Hollywood celebrities watch his fights – some even dig at any opportunity to just watch him train. As the great HBO Godfather Larry Merchant would suggest, he is Muhammad Ali, Elvis Presley, and Bruce Lee, all rolled into one. His enormous fame accorded him numerous commercial endorsements unparalleled in the history of the Philippines. He also plays basketball and billiards, and records albums. One of his favorite pastimes is “sabong,” the local term for cockfighting. As a matter of fact, he owns a farm of fighting cocks, many acres in size.

It’s difficult to assess which among this long list of accomplishments deserves to be considered as his greatest achievement. Undoubtedly, Pacquiao has achieved so much, and maybe he’s still bound to add more achievements to that list. How about you? What do you think is his greatest achievement, thus far?

To be a world champion is great enough, and becoming a world champion in six divisions in such a fashion as easy as walking in the park is no easy feat to be equally achieved by any other Filipino, even down the stretch of a hundred years. Exuding versatility, makes him the greatest Filipino to have ever walked the earth.

his greatest achievement to me is his desire to help the less furtunate… giving millions of his hard earned money to his countrymen,,,from building schools..medical treatment and so on…to me its unbelievable…one last thing,,,is there any person that you can think of that can make a country stop to a stand still even the insurgence asking for a cease fire for one day just to watch this man fight …just tell us,,,

His greatest achievement thus far is his being down-to-Earth or his humility despite of popularity. I never saw a boxing fighter who is humble in many ways after victory! He is an excellent example to youth for humanitarian works, sportsmanlike behavior inside and outside the ring and most of all as a good husband and a family man. I hope he will not change his character and his spirit and God fearing attitude. It is only God who give all the things he now have! More power PaCman and best wishes!

His greatest achievement is human kind. Most atletes who becomes famous and wealthy doesn’t give back or knows how. They have to be approached by someone rather than them within their hearts to give back…

Get your facts straight Mr. Loberternos. Morales never ducked marquez. It was the other way around. Marquez was offered $1.5 million to fight morales but refused coz he wanted $3million. An outrageous amount for him that time. The same way he refused an immediate rematch with pacquiao when he asked way much money than what’s offered. He ended up fighting a then nobody Chris John for $10,000 and LOST to john.

Some people feels marquez never got what he deserved like the world wronged him, when in fact it was his own fault. He made bad decisions for his career. Just like fighting mayweather at his own turf, didn’t even required PBF to lose 1 pound from 147, made him look like a journeyman. which, again, was nobody’s fault but him.

For me.Pacman’s greatest achievement is his HUMILITY in face of all the accolades, fame and fortune that he’s got right now.In my mind nobody, not even the most richest filipino, the corrupt wealthy politicians or even our famous celebrities would display such attitude.

He has become the face of the Filipino. He has projected the country to heights never before achieved by any Filipino. His humility despite his popularity, his faith in God projected the best in the Filipino character. He is Gods gift to us Filipinos and to the boxing world. May his tribe increase.

his greatest achievement was when he conquered poverty and created his own place among the stars..he did not let poverty be a limitation to success but rather used it as an inspiration to be the best as he can be…God gave him that seed that talent to which he should cultivate and grow to the fullest…Pacquiao did! That’s his greatest achievement in life.

HIS GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT? HIS FAMILY! They’re the reason why an ordinary Juan dela Cruz is the PACMAN we know today. His God and family are second to none.

pacman’s greatest achievement is raising the bar of boxing champions. 4 weight class in championship fight with top notch fighters in less than 2 years – 130, 135, 140 and 147 lbs. nobody can beat that record. henry armstrong did it during the 1930s but the competition is not the same as pacman. his other great achievement is stay on the ground, focus on training and keep on improving despite all the extra curricular activities he had in the philippines.

    Nasabi nang lahat e.
Ito nalang sasabihin ko: Paano na kaya yong Emmanuel Pacquiao Jr. na anak kay Joanna Bacusa? He is innocent of whatever wrong thing that brought him in on earth. Is he being sustained or supplied the correct and proper way – you know what I mean. He did not come from thin air. Let’s face it. The “people” who caused him to come on earth has the greatest responsibiity to raise him properly and responsibly.

For me, Manny Pacquiao’s greatest achievement in life is and will always be his pride of being a Filipino, who is never ashamed in lifting the “burden” of the Philippine Flag whenever he fights.

on the ring he is undoubtedly one of the greatest. don\\\’t get me wrong, I\\\’m proud of that. but true achievements are not measured by just one part of your life or by how much wins you\\\’ve got but by WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART. does he have the heart to help people? maybe. but I would say \\\”not enough\\\”. he always quotes spiderman \\\” to whom much is given much is expected\\\” or \\\”with great power comes great responsibility\\\”. he earns millions of $ and he only gives P1M to typhoon victims. say he doles out food, may be by about, say, another 1M. that only amounts to $40,000 or roughly 0.1% of what he has now in his pockets. am i jealous of his fame or money? not at all brothers n sisters. I\\\’m happy with what the Lord has given me and I know i have the chance to help our countrymen much more than he does (and i will do it without the cameras looking). politics is not a vehicle to help people, not in our country anyway. if you want to help, go directly to the people and don\\\’t give them \\\”fish but help them how to catch fish\\\”. Filipinos are my inspiration. despite a family to raise, i work hard here in the land of cold winters, try to raise a business and someday i will make my dream a reality with the help of God almighty. if i could not do it in my lifetime, my children will, for sure. \\\’IF YOU DO THIS TO THE LEAST OF MY BROTHERS, YOU DO IT TO ME\\\”. Matt 25:40. when we face the Lord on judgement day, He will not ask you, \\\”child, how many championship belts did you bring for me? seven? ohh great!!! nope. not at all… not at all.. sorry!!

  21. Posted October 21, 2009 at 12:17 pm

His biggest achievement today is he is a unifying force to all Filipinos who have different views in life and an example of a young Filipino who have strong faith in God.

examinerauthor, that illigetimate child you mentioned is much, much richer than you are (that is, if indeed you’re rich) because of his father’s status. but what i can not forget, is what jinkee tearfully said on t.v.. she blamed those women gravitate around pacman because of his fame and fortune. and it does’nt matter to those women if they destroy pacman’s beautiful family, as a result. also, i heard that the woman he had a child with, had a boyfriend that time she made a fling with pacman—only shows what kind of woman she is. pacman is human, not a saint and king david of israel also has that kind of “sin”. so don’t fully blame it on pacman for christ sake—he is a full blooded male, unlike you…hypocrite.

trupinoy, if you’re not contented, then that’s not enough isn’t it? then what is enough? spoonfeding them 365 days a year? this calamity is worse than what hurricane katreena did in the US 3 years ago and their gov’t. had difficulty that resulted into riots. helping the victims is collective effort among people and gov’t. here, not to mention aids sent by many countries. together with other rich people, it is enough for pacman to pitch in and the people are happy and thank them for that (unlike you who criticize and complain out there). pacman’s help to the poor (though erroneous) is a continuing effort, not a one shot deal. i mentioned erroneous, because his method is dole out instead of helping them how to fish. he should have to establish small cooperatives like in farm, handicraft, transport, wholesale/retail, backyard industries, aquaculture/fishing etc so the poor can have colletive livelihood. NGOs and the church will be happy to manage it for pacman. dole outs is demeaning, corrupting and distorting people. poor people should be taught to be responsible and helped stand on their own feet than be spoonfed. btw, all of pacman’s achievements are already mentioned above and no need for me to add.

  24. Posted October 21, 2009 at 3:18 pm

hey zdrx, who’s complaining? I ain’t buddy. I’m not affected by the typhoon. so you can say why do i care? because I’m still a pinoy and i can see and feel the hardships of the people. what i mean in between the lines is you’re just echoing it out loud. he doesn’t have to enter politics to help the poor. yap, cooperative is one of the solution to our problem, especially in the farming sector. who gets rich down there? the chinese middlemen, traders. the farmers gets poorer and poorer because they advance cash and these traders just choke their breath with rock bottom buying prices.

trupinoy… yes, you’re complaining that pacman gives just 0.1% of what he has (never considering his continuing help/dole outs to the distitute). you even put him in bad light while you paint yourself nice by claiming you can help more than he can if given the chance. you left our country to earn more, then how much did you give (if any)? if you can’t give proof, then shut up!
the reason i thought of cooperatives because it gives the poor leverages via organizational strenght. individually, the poor are vulnerable to vultures. if only pacman with his wealth, knew how to help the poor properly by helping them how to stand on their own.
