Here’s a straight scoop and some insider details about the upcoming mega boxing fight on December 2008. It’s going to be De La Hoya against Pacquiao!

Pacquiao will probably take most of the swing states, but De La Hoya is pretty much a ‘comeback’ king and certified boxing maverick. He (De La Hoya) will most likely target Democratic party strongholds while Pacquiao will focus on states which will yield more electoral votes…
Ooops. What am I talking about? I got so caught up with the outcome of the US elections that now I’ve messed up my thoughts! Anyway, now that election’s over, no matter what your political stands are, it’s time to move the matchups to the boxing arena! Yeah, it’s time to get physical, baby.
This coming December 2008, a taller, heavier, and more experienced De La Hoya will face a shorter, but faster and possibly stronger fighter, Manny Pacquiao.
In this article, I’ll try hard to refrain from biased comments and statements that will reveal whose side I am on. But you cannot blame me. Manny Pacquiao is a natural born Filipino, just like me. During his earlier days as a boxer, I’ve seen him in person. My dad and I were about to order from Mcdonald’s branch in Manila, when my dad suddenly stopped in front of a table and talked to a muscular man. It was Pacquiao. I let him sign an autograph.
And look at this. My mother hailed from General Santos City, Manny Pacquiao’s hometown. My mom’s childhood neighborhood is actually two blocks away from Manny Pacquiao’s current multi million dollar/peso home. My goodness. I’ll let the cat out of the bag: I’m biased!
But honestly, this game is still ‘anybody’s game’. De La Hoya is pretty much an experienced fighter, and very comfortable in that weight class. Pacquiao has only recently moved up to super lightweight division (if I’m not mistaken), and he may have trouble getting used to it. Although Pac has defeated David Diaz earlier, he hasn’t faced anyone even an inch closer to De La Hoya’s caliber yet.
Age and momentum, meanwhile, is in Pacquiao’s favor. De La Hoya didn’t even have a lot of big fights in the past two years, except for that bout with Mayweather (in which he lost). Meanwhile, Pacquiao is on a roll, a winning streak. He’s bagged more championship belts than any Asian has ever garnered, he’s been champion in four divisions, and heck, he even hastened the retirement of two Mexican legends (no offense to Mexican boxers, they’re all great fighters!).
In a sense, this is a classic battle between the mentor and his protege’. Pacquiao was under De La Hoya’s ‘loving arms’ before. Ok, it’s not what you think (c’mon let’s not resurrect the De La Hoya gender issue again. We all know it’s a fake, or is it?). What I mean is that Pacquiao was once under the De La Hoya boxing promotions, but now, he has switched to Top Rank promotions. He’s going against the very CEO of the promotion camp he previously came from. Interesting.
Here’s another insider ’scoop’. Do you know Manny Pacquiao’s secret beverage for developing stamina, prolonged strength, and muscular flexibility? Ok, I’ll tell you. The magic energy drink is egg yolk mixed with Sprite or any kind of soda. There, I said it. Let’s just hope that De La Hoya won’t be able to read this article because we don’t want him to send a proposal to President Obama about starting an egg embargo to the Philippines!
All in all, this will be a clash of two different boxing styles. These are two champions from two different eras, one came from the west and the other from the east, fighting for a single belt.
Let’s see what happens.

Excellent article! Witty too! It’s a fight all boxing fans will be excited to watch.
Very well written and timely article. I still say that the fight is a mismatch and it is being staged with money as the prime consideration. Greed?
It will be a major world event, where we will see an Asian legend Manny Pacquiao, I hope to see it on TV.
Thanks for communicating this event.
Well expressed! I am pretty sure on that day every man in our barangay will be gathered in one roof(even they have their own TV)to watch the match.
Very well written. Reminds me of Recah Trinidad of PDI. But there’s no belt on the line for this fight. This is just entirely a business fight. Plain mismatch. No excitement, if Pacquiao wins Dela Hoya would adduce Old Age, if Dela Hoya wins Pacquaio would adduce Size.
Biggest fight in Pacman’s career! I’m sure the venue in Las Vegas will be totally filled: 70% Filipinos, 20% Mexican, 10% American! lol
Just kidding! It will be a great fight. They might declare it a holiday in General Santos city. haha
Kevin Garnett might watch the live fight too. Pacquiao (Pacman) always gives away free tickets to the Celtics.
Very nice article… good scoop… we will watch the match…
Interesting! WHat happens if it’s a draw?
Very nice, I’m sure fans will be wathcing. Take care, Ruby
If it’s a draw, then I’ll be convinced this is purely a commercial fight designed to rake in stacks of hard cash for both parties.:-)
i’ve seen manny in his latest interview and is it just me or has he become skinny? :S i’m a bit scared for him given that oscar is bit of a big man. hope manny wins!
Don’t worry, Jhenz. I believe this fight isn’t as lopsided as most people think. De La Hoya is bigger. But remember, even in his younger years, he couldn’t knock down an older and smaller opponent, Julio Cesar Chavez. De La Hoya won by TKO just because of a heavily bleeding wound on Chavez’ eye.
So I guess, the height and weight difference in this match will be very obvious, but it wouldn’t change Manny’s game.
Interesting!
I`d like very much Pacquiao to win this fight, but I really see it as a mismatch, sorry to say but Manny is overmatched, that´s what I mean. Marquez was 34 or 35 when he clashed with Manny, and they were almost even. Dela hoya is 36; that´s not old if we put Hopkin`s age in mind, which is 43. And Oscar´s slimming will make him even more faster, like a whirlwind, and will not put a dent in his strenght. He´ll pummel Manny`s liver and kidneys, everytime he gets the chance, to try to make him weak; that´s one of his techniques. Aaahh, why do I say all this–let´s just wait and see, and hope Manny wins! This article is so good, and it simpy evoked up my reasoning and logical way to see things as they are, that´s why.
Nice Article !!
