In the recent interview with Manny Pacquiao, he admitted that he is planning to retire from boxing. He said he may retire next year (2013). This big decision was caused by renewing his faith in God. He mentioned that he has denounced his sins, involved himself in Bible study and said he will spend more time with his wife and children.
Pacquiao claim that he had a dream that made him reflect about something. In the dream, he says he was in a beautiful forest when suddenly a bright light was shone upon him. Then he says a voice asked him, “Son why are you going away from me?” Then he awoke from the dream in tears. ”I woke up crying. I remember I was crying in my dream and when I touched my pillow, it was wet,” Pacquiao said. After waking up, he searched the Bible for answers to his dream and found that God sometimes talked to people through their dreams. ”In the past, God talked to people through their dreams. So I told myself this dream is real and I have to change my life,” he said.
“If I had died last year or in the last two years, I am sure I would’ve gone straight to hell. My faith in Him is there 100 percent, but behind it, I was still being the Devil’s advocate, and I was still doing evil.” Pacquiao told the interviewer.
According to him, the change came not only because he wanted it, but because God changed him. ”Being a Christian means accepting Christ as your savior, your God,” he stated. “That’s why you are called a ‘Christian.’ If you remove Christ, there’s only ‘i.a.n.’ and that means “I am nothing.”
He said he gave up gambling, drinking alcoholic beverages and womanizing. He was even appointed as Bible Ambassador in his home country, Philippines.
He said boxing is a cruel sport and God doesn’t want that. But still he had to finished his contract and had few more fight before retiring next year. So he may not be able to face Mayweather Jr. after all. But fame and glory doesn’t seem to matter to Pacquiao anymore. Meanwhile, Manny Pacquiao had agreed to face Timothy Bradley in June 9, 2012.

I always believe one thing, when the cruel side of us was great then was the same side of the soft
Great share:)

Awww. So, he’s never gonna face Mayweather?
Pacquiao is an interesting character as well as a dedicated boxer. But maybe he’s tired of the discipline of the sport, all the training and he wants more in his life. Many fighters retire then make a comeback, we’ll see. Professional sport and religion don’t mix very well though
Great, i liked it! Share more, keep up the writing
Nice post. I’m a sports freak although I am not a huge boxing devotee. Nevertheless the sport keeps losing legit draws as few as they are. LOL
Of course Manny had his time and it makes sense he has come to the end. He will be 34 I believe in 2012. Sure that leaves some years to still fight but hey he is no kid.
And regardless of what others think of his faith it is his faith. And if his heart is in his life, good luck to him. He doesn’t need the money anymore for one and if that is his passion you should follow your passion.
You cannot succeed in professional sports if you are not all in. Frankly I applaud people for making decisions like this. Based on their priorities and not the media or public expectation. He doesn’t owe the boxing world anything. He gave his time and he wants to move on.
Whether it was religion or something else if he has emotionally and mentally checked out he wouldn’t be at his best anyhow.
And I for one don’t want to see an athlete perform simply for money.

pacquiao should have retired LONG AGO. ever since the time his mom requested him to, especially since he already became rich long ago. because boxing is a cruel “sport.” i even hate calling it a sport because i don’t believe that any event like boxing that can disable or even kill its participants should be called a sport. boxing is just a gambler’s activity.
Wow, I didn’t know about this dream. It is really weird reading this. I guess they’ll have to put down his alcoholic tv commercials.
i don’t think he has been appointed yet the bible ambassador. only an offer yet.
This is wonderful. Being a Mexican i truly dislike him beating up on us. That guy is a beast, and definitely has potential to succeed on something else. Its time to let other boxers(Mexicans) shine in the industry!!!
it’s wonderfull
