My essay is about how I learned to love the sport of boxing. This essay is also about the Philippine’s great boxer Manny Pacquiao and his fight with Ricky Hatton later today in the United States.

I have never been interested in sports before especially boxing. For me, there is nothing uglier than watching 2 people trying to knock out each other inside the ring. My interest in boxing was awaken when I heard about the Filipino boxer champ named Manny Pacquiao or Pacman the Destroyer by his multitude of fans.

Watching him fight against Mexican boxing champions over the years was an amazing sight to behold. There is no doubt that he is a force to be reckoned with inside the ring. And aside from being a great fighter, Manny Pacquiao is also a great role model of the millions of Filipinos who want to make it good in their chosen profession be it in sports or in other industry.  There is nothing that the Filipino people love to see than an underdog making it big time. I should know since I am a Filipino too.

Now the Philippine archipelago is swept anew with a fever. No this fever has nothing to do with the deadly swine flu that is wreaking havoc in Mexico, the United States of America and in other parts of the world. The fever that I am talking about is the fever of excitement in anticipation for the incoming fight between The Philippine’s Boxing Champ and Boxing’s pound for pound champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and British Champion Boxer  Ricky Hatton.

Only a few hours from now and the much awaited fight between these two great boxers aptly titled The Battle of East and West will commence in the prestigious MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. Millions of fans from both camps are awaiting the outcome with bated breaths. Although I am pretty sure that each camp has no doubts in their minds that it will be their idols who will win the great fight.

Whoever will win in this fight will go down in boxing history as one of the greatest fighters in the world in the 21st century.
