Floyd Mayweather Loses – Manny Pacquiao Robbed
Two of the biggest names in boxing have come unstuck following judges’s decisions. One verdict seemed bang on – the other outright robbery. But then, this is boxing.

Prisoner 01363917, otherwise known as Floyd Mayweather Jr, made an appeal for early release from his 82 day jail sentence.
His reasons were predictably outrageous. Mayweather had been convicted of assaulting his girlfriend and received the sentence to be served in Clark County Detention centre, just miles away from the MGM Grand stadium in Las Vegas where he has earned many millions of dollar. According to Mayweather’s complaint the food and water just were not up to his requirements.
Mayweather wanted bottled water and a better standard of cuisine, five star would do. In fact he needed it because his body would not be up to boxing when he was released if things did not change. His personal physician who visited said that after only two days Floyd had lost muscle tone.
The judge said, “This is prison, where did he think he was going, the Four Seasons?” So Floyd is stuck with tap water and simple food. He had asked to be released to home custody, or to go in with the general prison population. No way was that going to happen. Nevada state authorities do not want a severe case of Floyd bashing on their hands as fellow convicts took exception to Mayweather’s erratic personalty.
So Floyd has lost cred with his gangster rap friends for even appealing – but Manny Pacquiao has been robbed of his welterweight title. He lost a split decision in Vegas to Tim Bradley – when practically every independent observer said he’d won it easily. World Super Middleweight champion Andre Ward who was at ringside said Bradley was a friend of his, but he should hand his belt back, this was a disaster.
Promoter Bob Arum said, “I’ve never been so ashamed as I am right now.” He went to Bradley’s corner right after the final bell and Bradley said to him “I tried my best but I couldn’t beat him.”
Arum has asked for the Nevada State Attorney General to look into the affair and there is to be a round by round questioning of the judges.
Pacquiao took the verdict with grace, saying “My best wasn’t good enough.” It is his first defeat in seven years during which he has world titles in eight weight divisions.
But once again, boxing looks in bad shape after a verdict disputed by almost everyone who saw it – and gamblers who got on Bradley at 4 – 1 made a killing.
There will be a rematch in November. Meanwhile, Mayweather has around 70 days to survive on tap water and regular prison fare. When he comes out he will have plenty to say. Count on it.
