David and Goliath Meet Again

I am not normally a big boxing fan; well I didn’t think I was until I watched the fight between the two heavy weight boxers last night.

David Haye from London England, a mighty big man in his own right was up against Russian Nikolai Valuev (Goliath) who at over 7foot tall and weighing a mighty 23 stone towered above David making him look like a middleweight.

The fight took place in Germany and many supporters of both men turned up to watch this very published fight.

Valuev owned the middle of the ring, coolly following David’s every move as he ducked and dived around the whole of the outside ring. The huge beast of a man that towered 9 inches over his opponent David, was poetry in motion as his laid back gentle, persona radiated out of every pore.

David was like a terrier that was teasing a rat; they both clearly had studied each other’s form and it was so apparent as this spectacular fight unfolded.

I was shouting “keep away from the ropes David” as Valuev looked as if he was going to devour David if he got him into the corner of the ring up against the ropes.

It was touch and go for both men, as to who was going to win throughout the fight. There was no body gripping, hugging or constant punching to the head. Just a few very well placed hits for both men, both very professional I thought.

It ended with the judges making the final decision on points and even with a suspected broken right hand David came out top and won the WBA heavyweight tile 2009!

I didn’t get to see it but was concerned they would even allow such a weight difference. I’m not surprised he broke his hand – he might as well have been punching an elephant!

Thanks Miss L for the post fight analysis. I saw the headlines, but never paid much attention to it as I was more anxious to get here and now I don’t even have to read the other accounts because it sounds like you have done a masterful job in summing it all up. More of your incredible talents!!!

Cool post about the fight. Size as in height and muscle has and never will be guarentee of strength. Many of your best and most deadliest fighters haven’t been giants. Just look at Bruce Lee and Mike Tyson in height sense. Hats off to the new champ. Good article.

A good fight report and I enjoyed it. Big people often have
a clumsiness that negates their greater strenth and I guess that happened here. I’m sorry I missed it. I have some articles I hope you’ll comment on.
