Amir Khan Waiting for Ricky Hatton But First Dmitriy Salita

Bad decisions in promotions and selection of opponents have made the difference for many fighters. Bravery aside boxing is a business and there are many fights that can still be made. Fighters make fights hype makes attractions. Ricky Hatton is still capable of drawing the crowd.

It is possible for Ricky Hatton to have yet another comeback in one of the biggest gates for a championship fight. In spite of his recent defeats by Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao he has drawing power in his homeland and a newly crowned champion that he could possibly defeat.  WBA World light welterweight champion Amir Khan has risen from a lackluster career with his recent title victory against Andreas Kotelnik in Manchester England. Having suffered his only defeat a knockout by Breidis Prescott previous to his title fight the shift to trainer Freddie Roach seems to have invigorated his career.

Hatton on the other hand has spiraled downward changing trainers from Billly Graham his long time side man to Floyd Mayweather Sr. who came under criticism for his training habits and tactics. Devastating knockouts against the two fighters in Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao considered the best pound for pound until one is determined will not dampen a Hatton comeback. With the fight predicted to be staged in England it would be a natural for both fighters.

First Khan must successfully defend his title December 5, in Newcastle England against Ukraine born Dmitriy Salita whose continued comments show little respect for Khans ability to hold on to the title. Hatton must find a new trainer with many suggestions pointing him in the direction of Billy Graham who guided his career with great success. Provided the two issues can be resolved and Hatton is of a mind to fight again in 2010 it could either be a path to final retirement should he lose or other fights in the light welterweight division should he be victorious. It is an advantage for Khan having Freddie Roach who is also the trainer for Manny Pacquiao and is acknowledged by many as the number one trainer in boxing. In addition the opportunity to spar and train with Pacquiao has sharpened his skills as a fighter.

Bad decisions in promotions and selection of opponents have made the difference for many fighters. Bravery aside boxing is a business and there are many fights that can still be made. Fighters make fights hype makes attractions.  Ricky Hatton is still capable of drawing the crowd.  The marching band, the crowd, the beer, the hysteria there is still only one Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan may have to prove otherwise. Perhaps it should have been left to wiser management for Hatton to avoid the two conflicts that dimmed his star appeal but he fought anyway and maybe there is still redemption yet to come.

Good article my friend, am a huge boxing fan and enjoyed this.

You should check my article on Ricky Hatton, A Fight to Far, it touches on the subject of a fight with Khan. Personally I think he should quit but don’t think he will, I think he feels he has too much to prove still at the highest level.
