The great basketball debate.

On of the greatest debates in sports and defiantly in basketball today is that who is better Kobe Bryant or Lebron James at basketball. Personally, I am a Kobe supporter but in a few years, James will become better. Here are some facts:

Championships: Kobe Bryant has four championships and six final appearances while Lebron has only one finals appearance. At first glance, it seems Bryant is the clear winner in this category. However, many people can argue that Kobe won the other three with Shaq and won only one by himself. I suppose, it no depends on if Lebron can win with Shaq now on his team.

Scoring: Lebron James seems to have the edge in scoring in his career (27.5 vs 25.1). However, if you break this down even more, you will realize that Lebron scored only 24.4 points per 36 minutes while Kobe scored 24.8 points per 36 minutes in his Career. Then again, Lebron’s only played 6 seasons and has put up higher numbers in his first 6 seasons then Kobe in his first six.

Other stats: Lebron beats out Kobe career wise in all other stats. He beats Kobe in steals, blocks, rebounds, and assists. However, it may be pointed out that Kobe had Shaq in his early years to rebound and block for him.

Playoffs: Playoff wise, Kobe has been in the playoffs every year since he was in the NBA expect for one season. Lebron has been in the playoffs for every season in his career. However, Lebron again, has higher stats then Kobe in almost every category. In addition, there games played per playoff appearance are almost equal.

Other facts: Kobe and Lebron have both been in every All-star game since they entered the NBA. Kobe has won three All-Star game MVP awards while Lebron has two. They both have won one MVP award. Kobe of course, has one extra finals MVP award.

Overall: It seems that as of today, Lebron James is a better player then Kobe. Kobe however, has a greater legacy then James with more awards and championships. With Shaq now on James’s team, the next few years will determine if James will have a greater legacy then Kobe.
