Marion Jones is set to make a comeback-in an entirely different sport. The athlete, who most recently made headlines over a year ago after it was reveled that she lied about her use of performance enhancing drugs, was invited to return to her first love in May of this year.
She served time for the crime of lying to the team that investigated the allegations of drug use and now has her eyes set on winter in Europe, as part of her preparation for an entry into the WNBA. Jones has said that she hopes that by doing well in the WNBA, she will be a better role model for young people.
Marion Jones’ height, natural athleticism and previous experience playing basketball in college should help in her pursuit of her goal. Changing careers is not easy most of the time. Persons have to work from the ground up all over again. In Marion Jones’ case it won’t be any different.

However, in this case, as in many other cases where people change careers, it seems like a wise decision. Marion Jones can make a fresh start doing something that she has interest in and has tested her ability in before. She knows that she has what it takes to make it to the top in a sport. The discipline and commitment she would have developed in track and field will help her in basketball.
The WNBA will benefit from the publicity that it would get by having Marion Jones as a player, especially if she does well.

Your comment about the publicity is exactly right; Most people don’t get a second chance, may she make the best of it. It is true that there are certain avenues forever blocked to her in this day and time, and that is the cross to bear when trust has been badly broken.
It is hard to rebuild that trust and there will forever be persons who won’t give her a second chance. Hopefully she will make the best of it.
