Chris Paul plus one Deron Williams does not equal a rivalry. Or so they tell us, “Same as any other game i play,” Williams says convincingly, when asked about the match up, ” Same as any other game.” ” It’s not a one-on-one game,” Adds Paul. ” It’s the Hornets vs. Jazz, rather than me vs. him.” So there you have it. Straight from the Hornet’s mouth. We made a mistake. There is actually nothing out of the ordinary when the NBA schedule brings up these two together three or four times a year. Just another day, just another opponent. Yeah, right. My apology to tip-off this article was not directed towards you. But was rather meant for our subjects, CP3 and D-Will. I am sorry guys. I hope you don’t hold it against me, Not in the least Whether they’ll admit it or not, this is the definition of a rivalry, and why they are not eager to sit down for a lengthy interview about each other, or to share their deepest desires to one-up their counterpart every time they step foot on the same floor. That would only add another couple logs to a fire that’s been burning since 2005. From the moment they declared for the NBA draft and were subsequently selected a pick apart Utah tabbing D-Will at three spot and Hornets nabbing CP3 at four. These guys have been quizzed about each other nearly non-stop, as if they were the last two point guards on earth. ” I get asked about him alot,” Williams says reluctantly, after we ask one more time. ” We’re always compared. Articles are always written about us. You know, it gets a little old. It gets a little repetitive talking about it. But we’ve both come to the realization that were going to be compared for the rest of our careers.’ They can’t blame us for asking, though. They can’t blame the columnist, bloggers or talking heads for critiquing them and standing them up back-to-back to measure one against the other, either, After all, the reason everyone wants to compare the two is because no one has ever seen a pair of playmakers arrive on the scene together like these two. Only in their fourth pro seasons, they’re already atop the rankings 11.0 dimes a night and Williams a close second with 10.7 handouts per game. They’re equally adept at scoring (CP3 22.8 PPG, D-Will 19.4), can board (Paul with 5.5 RPG and Williams 2.9) and can pick your pockets (Paul 2.4, Williams 1.1) So as far as stats go Chris Paul is the better point guard. Stay tuned for another NBA season and watch Chris Paul and Deron Williams battle it out to win the Top Point God Status.
