United Center November 10th.
Toronto at 3-3 on this young season, have been up and down as they are beating up teams or getting beat up on pretty sporadically.
The Raptors have been a jump shooting team through the past few years. Meaning that if they miss a few they are usually out of the game early and if they are hitting the game is over early. But as for playoff basketball, they just do not have the defensive toughness to hang with the big boys.
They have used a changing starting lineup throughout this year. Choosing to start the 27yr old rookie in Jamario Moon after his good stretch of time late in last nights game where he recorded an energetic 9pts and 8reb. Also they have chosen to start Rasho Nesterovic, the big statue in the middle as Bargnani has been suspect as a starter with his 20pt outbursts and next night 5.
Chicago Bulls are another story struggling before acing Detroit for their first win, at 1-4 this year. Tyrus Thomas at PF for the Bulls this year had his best game by far against DET. Consistency the issue thus far, but getting solid contributions by former 1st pick overall Joe Smith off the bench.
The Raps start the game well going on a ten-two run without their sharpshooters Kapono or Bargnani, who the announcer for the Bulls keeps butchering his name. Someone should just tell him to call him by his nickname in T.O. (Il Mago).
The game is an ugly affair as Chicago gets back into the game with Raptor turnovers coming in bunches. But no team seems to want to take this game as t-overs are leading to other team taking chances for easy baskets and bad passes.
I am not sure if its the defense in the game or bad decisions as the Bulls do boast solid defense. But this is an ugly one.
13 turnovers for TOR vs CHI’s 9 t-overs, the amount of field goals made and turnovers are equal at 22 at this point 2 mins left before half.
Moon showing some game thus far. Another key player has been Delfino who may never score more than 10pts, but will fill the stat box with rebounds, steals and assists every night it seems. Raptors by 11, 41-30 at the half. The raps just seem to be in their groove, especially with starters in the game as the bench was a miss for them in the 1st half. Bulls haven’t got too much to be happy with in this game. Leading scorers are Ben Gordon with 11 and Andres Nocioni’s 9. Raptors have a good balance of scoring with 5 with 5+ pts or more. Chicago may be hampered in the 2nd half with Tyrus Thomas’ three first half fouls. Clearly the Bulls are not making the smart passes and not making shots. I am uncertain of what Toronto can do better on D in the 2nd half as they don’t usually stop anybody, just outscore most teams. Delfino and Moon are the only above-average on D with Bosh getting better at the back end, but slow-footed with the knee-brace.
The second half begins with another run of 9-1. The Bulls are continuing to struggle at under 30% FG for the game. Nocioni is 5/8 which is the only one helping the cause at the moment. Delfino hits a pair of triples and the raptors almost leading by 20. Rasho helping Raps get going with his rebounding presence.
77-43 after three. One word, Ouch! Toronto playing as when they started the year at 2-0. When they blew out New Jersey and Philadelphia. Toronto with six players with 8 or more points scored. Chicago have two scorers with 11 and 14, the rest have at most five or less.
Second round pick Aaron Gray the big center from Pitt I believe, gets to the line early in his short stint. Garbage time to suffice his appetite, as he has shown his limitations in the pro game, dominating in college as an oversize big man. Solid third center in this league, but will find his place I am sure in the long run.
The game has gone far, far out from reach and is now a foregone conclusion as the Raptors hit the century mark winning this error filled game 101-71. This game was over so fast the fans had no intention on watching the game, they just seemed excited to get the wave going throughout the United Center and fourth quarter. The Bulls set a record for the Raptors, it being the biggest win against them ever.
So all is well for T.O. for another day where they help themselves get over .500 at 4-3 and send an east rival to 1-5. Games like these make trades like the Bulls team for Kobe Bryant possible as the fans in ChiTown won’t stand for efforts like that.
