Yankees and The Pie-to-Face Tradition

Yankees pie tradition must be used only in special occasions.

After the New York Yankees’ lucky game 2 13th inning win against the Los Angeles Angels during the ALCS, the Yankees threw a pie in the face of Melky Cabrera, the Yankee second baseman that reached on a throwing error by second baseman Maicer Izturis in the bottom of the 13th.

The question I’m posing is: Why throw a pie in Jerry Hairston Jr’s face when he scored on an error. What a pathetic move on part of the Yankees. It baffles me to think that Yankee fans can even start to make fun of Angels fans for waving thundersticks or having the rally monkey. These fans also make fun of fans that wave towels such as the Phillies and Dodgers fans. With such hypocritical actions, I have completely lost all respect for Yankee fans. It is not that big of a deal if Arod gets a pie in the face after hitting a walk-off homerun, but after a cheap win like Game 2 versus the Angels, it looks like some skit of of Comedy Central. It is even more embarasing because of the Yankee fans’ criticisms of other teams’ historic traditions.

There are certain sports teams that should get rid of their current crowd-involving antics. There are plenty that I can call out. The NBA’s Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and the Boston Celtics and their embarassing mascots. The MLB has some embarassing ones that need to be pointed out as well. The Angels’ rally monkey is pretty embarassing, the Phillies green goblin weirdo, and last but not least, the Yankees’ disgusting cream pies.
