An update on the Toronto Blue Jays’ Season.

The Jays are currently 1st in the AL in Runs, Hits, Batting Average, and Total Bases. Marco Scutaro and Aaron Hill have been an unconventionally efficient 1-2 in the order combining for 57 runs scored. Every Jays starter has at least 3 home runs and a .250 average. This team gets production all through the line-up and even clutch hits from the bench. Jason Frasor, Jesse Carlson and Scott Downs are the bright spots in the bullpen. Frasor is third on the team in wins with 4 which has Jamie Campbell calling him a “vulture”. The starting pitching has been better than anyone could have expected considering the ever mounting injuries the Jays have sustained. Brian Tallet and Brett Cecil have performed admirably with the opportunity to start but will have to fight to stay in the rotation when Casey Janssen and Ricky Romero return soon. When B.J. Ryan returns, the Blue Jays will have a glut of quality pitchers and may consider trading some away this season. After all, Dustin McGowan and Shaun Marcum are slated to return in 2010 creating an even greater logjam. Of course, this is a problem that no one would complain about.

The next series against the Yankees will  be an good indicator at where the Jays stand in the AL East. Right now, the Red Sox and Rays are pretty much evenly matched while the Yankees are getting beaten up. Fortunately for the Yankees, this series will be at the Rogers Centre away from the cursed new Yankee Stadium. The Jays need to play a great series against the Yankees to prove that they are in the same league will Boston and Tampa.

I love how you said “cursed new Yankee Stadium” Although I’m not sure if you mean just annoying or actually cursed, it’s a cool idea to think that Babe Ruth has passed his curse onto the Yankees in their new stadium for destroying his house, 80 odd years of darkness, I’d really like to see that for the Yankees.
