The problem with the argument of filling seats is easy is simple. Most of the Yankee's revenue doesn't come from selling seats it comes from Media contracts. The yankees basically have a TV channel just for them while the Brewers have one of the smallest TV contracts in baseball. And while some owners do pocket their earnings that is not true with the present Brewers owner who has nearly tripled the Payroll of the Milwaukee Brewers since purchasing them in the early 2000s. That said despite increased spending the huge difference comes with the ability to pay and make mistakes.

The Yankees can afford a 40 million dollar 4 year player to play horribly and hire someone to replace them. The Brewers cannot, so when the Brewers GM makes a mistake the Brewers will have to live with it for 4 years unlike the Yankees.

What a lot of fans in small markets don't realize is that not only do bigger market teams like the Yankees share revenue with their team, as mentioned by the previous poster, but the dirty little secret behind why their hometown team often still can't compete:

That revenue they receive from the Yankees doesn't always get invested back into their team, but instead goes right into the pockets of the team's owners. Rather than putting the best product possible on the field, ownership opts for the quick profit.
It doesn't take a very large market to fill 30-40,000 seats, provided there is adequate support from the fan base; yet some of the towns where a lot of the cries of unfairness are coming from could sell more tickets to a tractor pull than a baseball game.

Conversely, in some large markets like Atlanta, fan apathy prevents sellout crowds for a lot of games. And when do stadiums in all these towns sell out most often? You guessed it...when the Yankees come to town.

The Oakland A's have proven that a savvy front office that is dedicated to being competitive, coupled with a devoted fan base, can (and does) run with the big boys.

Why are you pulling against the Yankees? Don't you know that because of Revenue Sharing and other stuff, they are helping small market teams stay afloat?

Since I'm a Yankee fan it's interesting reading articles like this.
