Do you know any baseball players who is seven-time All-Star shortstop? How about one that won MVP trophies in both World Series and the All-Star games in the same season? When I think about this, nobody else comes to mind but Yankee captain Derek Jeter.

If you’re a baseball fan or just like
baseball, I suggest you take a seat and read on about this
baseball hero.
Derek Jeter was born on June 26, 1974. His birth location
is Pequannock, New Jersey, but his family moved to
Kalamazoo, Michigan shortly after his birth. His little sister,
Sharlee, was born soon after they moved.
Derek’s father, Charles Jeter, worked as a counselor for
people who had drug problems. His mother, Dorothy Jeter, was
an accountant. His grandfather is Sonny Connors and his
grandmother is Dot Connors.
Derek has been a Yankee fan since the 1980’s. Almost
everywhere he went, he had to be wearing a Yankee cap. When
he was six years old, his Grandmother took him to Yankee
Stadium for the first time. Ever since then, he hoped to play for
the team himself.
As a child, Derek attended St. Augustine’s Elementary.
He was always able to get along with many different kinds of
kids, and help them out with work if they were stuck or
confused. At the age of twelve or thirteen, he went to the
University of Michigan for a basketball camp. Later on in the
ninth grade, he tried out for the Kalamazoo Central Junior
baseball team. In his junior years, he had a batting average of
.557.
Derek signed an eight-hundred, thousand dollar contract
shortly after he was drafted by the Yankees in 1992. His number
is 2, plays shortstop, and is Currently the Yankee captain.
Derek has had many accomplishment throughout his years
of being a Yankee. He made Rookie of the year for the 1996
season, won the 1996 and 1998 World Series, and got himself 2
championship rings by the summer of 1999. He was also chosen
by People Magazine as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in
the World”.
As you can see, Derek is a really good help to the Yankee
team. Maybe he’ll win an MVP trophy this season. We’ll just
have to wait and see!
