Playoffs and World Series Predictions

These are six teams I choose that I think possess the character and drive to make it to the playoffs and win it all. I give an outlook on every team’s strengths and weaknesses. Enjoy!

The playoffs are the place to be for any crazed fan. Whether the sport is basketball, football, soccer, or hockey, but the sport I’m talking about mainly is baseball. Yes, baseball, America’s national pastime. Opening day starts it; the 162nd game of the season ends it. Then, the long awaited playoffs start. 8 rival teams battle it out to see who can call themselves the World Champions. From the underdogs, to the actual teams expected to win, this is a flurry of excitement nobody misses.

Looking over the current standings, along with players, transactions, injuries, etc. I have made a couple of predictions for this year’s playoffs.

Mets

The Mets have been the favorite to win the NL East for a couple of years now. But, as seen from the major collapse last season, to the nagging injuries, it’s a turntable and it can go either way for this team. Tom Glavine left to Atlanta and Pedro Martinez with other starters are aging and losing their talent. Don’t be surprised though, if they made it to the World Series because they still have the likes of David Wright, Jose Reyes, etc.

Marlins

Many people question the Marlins ability to win because of age and inexperience, but don’t be fooled. This is an aggressive bunch of ballplayers. Dan Uggla is arguably one of the best second baseman in the National League with Chase Utley because of the way he hits. Not for average, but more for power. Hanley Ramirez was the Rookie of the Year in 2006 and is the top shortstop in the majors, in my eyes. He is only 23 and he can hit the crap out of the ball. Their bullpen is fourth best in the league, in terms of ERA. They are in first place right now, and proving a lot of skeptics wrong.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks is one of the youngest teams in the League, but one of the best in the past few years. Making it to the playoffs was shocking at first to the D-backs, but now we know they mean business. With Chris Young, Connor Jackson, and countless other great talents, this is a team to look forward to in upcoming years. Lastly, their 1-2 punch in the rotation with Brandon Webb and Dan Haren are just incredible. Alongside, one of the most durable bullpens in the league, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Yankees

Let’s face it. The Yankees are getting older by the year, and some analysts are referring to the present-day Red Sox as the new Yankees. But, all you Yankee fans don’t be upset. The Yanks are still the Mighty Bronx Bombers and they won’t go down without a fight. Remember I told you, with Chien Ming Wang and some of the up and coming starters like Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes, this could be one hell of a rotation. The Yanks are still stacked with talent, such as Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera, A-Rod, Jeter, Giambi, and the oft-injured Posada, with Johnny Damon, this Yankees lineup is still one of the fiercest lineups in the league.

Red Sox

The 2004 and 2007 World Champions, alongside the pickup of Dice K, Mike Lowell, and Josh Beckett a couple of seasons ago, the Bosox have turned into the team to beat. Big Papi, Manny Ramirez, J.D Drew, Catcher and captain Jason Varitek, Dustin Pedroia, and Jacoby Ellesbury in the lineup, this is a team that has the greatest mix of young and veteran talent. Jonathon Papelbon closes out the game, Hideki Okajima holds it down, Dice K shuts down the offense, and Beckett joins the parade, watch out! 2008 is going to be one hell of a season!
