New York City Needs a Third Baseball Team

Their are only two teams in New York City. I think a third team is needed to help the sport.

New York City is the center of the United States. Everything starts in New York. The entertainment industry, news media, and business world all center on the Big Apple. The world of sports is no different.
The New York Yankees are the kings of sports. They make a ton of money and have every move focused on intensely by the sports watching world. This is good for baseball. You need a superstar in sports. In wrestling in the 80’s it was Hulk Hogan. In the NFL it is the Cowboys. In the NBA it’s the Lakers. In college football it is Notre Dame. The Yankees are the focal point. Everyone has an opinion on the Yankees. You either love them or hate them. The problem is that baseball is giving too much of advantage to one team. New York City is too big to just have only two teams.
The Mets are clearly the red-headed step child of New York. However they too make a ton of money. This shows that New York easily supports two teams and it should have a third team. The current Yankees organization is a monster that steals the best free agents away every year in baseball. It is flat out not fair that they get every big name player. The Mets, Red Sox, Angels, Dodgers, and Cubs steal some too, but not as much as the pinstripe bullies.
New York should be given a third team. I personally don’t care if it’s a relocated franchise, such as the Florida Marlins, or if they have an expansion franchise. A third team should be placed in New York to take away some of the power the Yankees currently possess.
Many probably feel that a third team wouldn’t affect the Yankees, but I differ. If they put a baseball team in say Brooklyn, I guarantee you that those fans in Brooklyn who give their money to the Yankees would now give their loyalties to the new Brooklyn team. This in turn will take some power away from the Yankees and add a new powerhouse to the sport. The Yankees and Red Sox cannot win every year. The Tampa Bay Rays this year snuck in, but will probably be sent to the back of the pack when the Yankees steal their young players away. I feel that the only other option to make a fair league is too have a salary cap and I do not feel that is going to happen any time soon. So to you Yankees fans congratulations. I am sure you will get every free agent this fall. But, hopefully your real life monopoly will someday be over and the average Joe teams in Tampa, Minnesota, and Oakland can fight fairly with the big boys.

as someone in the NYC area I couldn’t be more opposed to that, sure a new team is cool but it is a threat to my team (Yankees) and serves no point..just these crybabys trying to “even” things out
