If you’ve been watching the World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees, you’re probably curious to know the final outcome. The New York Yankees emerged triumphant, winning 7-3 in the sixth game of the series.
Looking back, it was always going to be an uphill battle for the Phillies after a promising start to the MLB World Series. Going into the baseball game last night, the New York Yankees were leading 3-2, and they definitely took advantage of having their best pitcher, Petitte return to the game after three days rest. Pedro Martinez looked nervous and shaky at times, and the New Yorkers took full advantage as they chanted “Whose your Daddy” repeatedly as he pitched.
The Phils got off to a slow start, with Charlie Manuel looking on with great trepidation from the bench. Petitte managed to hold his own against some of the top Phillies strike force including Rollins, Ibanez and Chase Utley, who had both enjoyed an impressive Play Off Season thus far. Howard, who didn’t seem to be able to hit anything other than thin air in the other series games so far, managed to salvage his post-season with a nice home run. Sadly for the winners last year, the Philadelphia strike power couldn’t hold a candle to the prowess of Matsui who looked as cool as ice and ultra-threatening as he squared up to Philadelphia’s pitchers. Though his future with the Yankees seems uncertain, Matsui certainly managed to go out with a bang last night.
A-Rod was less than impressive in this sixth game, struggling to find the kind of hitting power for which he is renowned. All in all, the game could be described as anticlimactic and inherently one-sided. This was a night when Martinez couldn’t lift his game to the magnitude of the occasion, and the Philadelphia Phillies failed to take advantage of some less than perfect pitches from Joba Chamberlain. We can only hope that Manuel goes back to the drawing board and manages to rally the troops for a more impressive display in next years final.
Final Score: New York Yankees 7 Philadelphia Phillies 3
