Everyone believes that a man named Abner Doubleday invented Baseball. This is absolutely not true. Abner Doubleday was the first umpire of baseball. The man that invented baseball was named Alexander J. Cartwright. He set the first rules of the great sport of baseball in 1844. The first team that ever wore a uniform was the New York Knickerbockers and they wore it in their 1867 season. Baseball later evolved into a more aggressive sport, and was later made famous by Babe Ruth in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
Today, baseball is still enjoyed by people around the world. In Japan, baseball is the most popular sport played. Many players you see playing in America have come from Japan. Some of them are Hideki Matsui, Hideo Nomo and Dice-K Matsuzaka! America is entertained by stars like Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Manny Ramirez. Baseball is a part of American History and is taken very seriously today. Baseball is at all ages from 4 year olds in T-Ball to 42 year old Veterans in the Major Leagues. It doesn’t matter what league you play in, or your age, just as long as you enjoy the game! Today, many people enjoy baseball, and that is why baseball is known as America’s National Pastime
