Explain how an archer should stand and hold the bow when shooting?
The archer should stand feet apart & side on to the target, arrow should be 90 degrees to bow, forearm of drawing arm should be in one straight line with arrow.
Explain how an archer should ‘nock the arrow’ when about to shoot?
The archer should grab an arrow, put the arrow on the arrow rest, pull the nock back on the string (making sure the cock feather is facing out), then pull the string back and shoot.
What is the index / cock feather and how should it be positioned on the bow?
The cock feather is the different coloured feather on an arrow. It should be positioned on the bow pointing out.
When drawing the bow and arrow, how many fingers make contact with the string and in what position on the arrow?
Three fingers make contact with the string when drawing a bow, they are positioned as two fingers below and one above.
What is the correct term used to describe the flight of an arrow when shot?
Trajectory.
What does the term ‘fistmele’ mean and how large should it be?
Fistmele is a term that describes the correct distance between bow and string. It should be about 7 inches.
How many arrows constitute an end?
6 arrows.
. What happens if an arrow is dropped in competition, just prior of shooting?
It can be shot if it can be reached by the bow.
